Margaret Gradwell was born in Pretoria, South Africa and is currently involved with Art training programs at the University of Pretoria.
Since 1977 she has participated in several prestigious group exhibitions worldwide, and has presented many successful solo exhibitions. Her work is represented in many corporate and diplomatic collections as well as in many private collections.
She serves on numerous noted art committees and steering committees in South Africa.
Some of her work depicts dynamic dualistic landscapes and open still-lifes. She also integrates traditional three-dimensional African relief art with traditional Western easel painting.
The recurrent theme in her work is that of ‘indaba’ or debate amongst people with common goals, but of differing heritages.
