Description

Errol Boyley (1918 – 2007)

South African 1918-2007

Errol Boyley, born in Pietermaritzburg in 1918, was largely self-taught, with a year of drawing studies at Natal Technical College. He became a full-time artist in 1946 and was mentored by W.G. Wiles. Known as a master of contemporary realism, Boyley saw himself as a painter of nature. He worked mainly in oil and watercolour, especially depicting the Karoo and Winelands. His subjects also included seascapes, still lifes, interiors, wildlife, and figures. His work is held in public and private collections across South Africa.
