Description
Stefan Ampenberger (1908 – 1983)
Stefan Ampenberger was born in 1908 in Munich, Germany. Stefan was mentored by artist John Henry Amshewitz. His travels influenced his artistic output, and he is well known for his landscapes. His artistic style spans traditional to colourful and expressionistic to abstracted.
Ampenberger’s paintings emphasize sweeping vegetation and landforms over incidental figures. Bold, broad brushwork, minimal detail, and expressionist energy give them a Modern character; in the early 1970s, his palette shifted from browns and greens to more intense color. Stefan was a South African painter who’s work has been offered at auction multiple times
